Apple Targets Samsung Galaxy Note, Android Jelly Bean In Patent Suit

The boring court battle between Samsung and Apple just got even more boring with Apple recently announcing that thay intend to add the the new Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 as well as Google’s newest operating system – Android 4.1 to the patent infringement case.

According to a report by Bloomberg, U.S Magistrate Judge Paul S. Grewal recently heard Apple’s arguments against Samsung’s Galaxy Note 10.1 at the District Court for the Northern District of California. Apple alleged that since the Galaxy Note 10.1 also infringes on some of the patents that apple owns, the product should also be added to the ongoing lawsuit.

Experts opine that along with Samsung, Google is definitely a direct target here with the Galaxy Note 10.1 running the latest version of Google’s Android operating system – the version 4.1 JellyBean. This is not the first time new devices have been added to the list with Apple previously adding the Galaxy S II and the Galaxy Note and Samsung more recently adding the iPhone 5 to the list of devices that these companies claim infringe on each others patents.

Interestingly, this case too is under the purview of judge Lucy Koh who had famously delivered the verdict against Samsung ordering the south Korean company to pay Apple $1.05 billion. However, in that same case, the juros found that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 – a primary Apple iPad rival did not infringe on Apple design and dissolved a preliminary injunction against the device. That said, there is a possibility that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 could face a permanent sales ban as there are a plenty of post trial motions that these two companies would be hearing in December.

Let us also inform you that the suit to which Galaxy Note 10.1 was added would only come up for hearing some time in 2014. That’s a long time away!
